Description
Why develop a competency framework in particular? If you’re like most organizations, you likely don’t yet have a competency framework in position. Many organizations have a set of values or other guiding principles. These can include mission and vision statements, skeletons of corporate culture, or department- and team-specific rules. Competency frameworks are a bit different, and they can be beneficial for a variety of reasons.
Unlike the guiding philosophy of mission, vision, and value statements, competency frameworks tend to be more skills-based. They map out tangible requirements for your employees to meet in order to thrive in a particular position. That means you can benefit from a competency framework – even if your organization has other models in place.
SCOPE:
- The consultant will identify the proposed short- and long-term objectives for the framework. For instance, will it be used to assess employees, to give employees an accurate description of what’s expected of them, or both?
- The consultant will collect relevant competencies for each role by analyzing the job itself or by asking employees. The more accurately behaviors, skills and qualifications are defined, the more precise the framework will be, and the more effective its intended use.
- The consultant will use the information from the previous stage, and consequently the framework can be constructed for each position
